What is depth of field?
Depth of field is the distance between the nearest and farthest points in a scene that appear acceptably sharp. It depends on your focal length, aperture (f-stop), focus distance and the size of your camera’s sensor. DoF Mate calculates the exact near limit, far limit and total depth of field for any combination.
How do you calculate hyperfocal distance?
Hyperfocal distance is the focus distance that keeps everything from half that distance to infinity acceptably sharp. It is derived from focal length, aperture and the circle of confusion for your sensor. DoF Mate shows your hyperfocal distance live as you change any setting.
Does DoF Mate work offline?
Yes. Every calculation runs entirely on your iPhone, so DoF Mate works with no signal — on location, in a studio, or anywhere on set. The camera sensor database is bundled and can refresh when you do have a connection.
